Saturday was a great day! It was the ‘Free day with Group leaders’ from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, so we decided to go to Dublin! After an energetic breakfast we got ready, we took the meal that Rathdown had prepared for us, and we all met at Palmer’s hall (the meeting point at the school) at 10:30. Austin, one of the ATC monitors came with us. He is studying mechanical engineering at Trinity College, so he knows very well Dublin city. He was our guide!
We walked to the Glenageary train station to took the train that lasted twenty minutes to the city center. Once there, we started walking through the cobbled stones of Trinity College Dublin which brought us back to the 18th century. Austin explained us a lot of curiosities and shew us the magnificent Old Library; Inside is housed the Book of Kells – a 9th-century gospel manuscript famous throughout the world.
Thereafter we moved to Grafton street, full of shops where the kids bought some stuff. Around 1:00 pm we had our meal at Saint Stephen’s Green park, and we saw a typical Irish wedding! Later, we visited more shops. Austin brought us to a very popular candy shop next to the Irish parliament building. After buying some sweets we crossed the famous Ha’ Penny bridge, we stopped at Starbucks and ended up in a huge commercial center, because the girls wanted to buy a few clothes. Awesome! Meanwhile, the boys went with Austin to look around other shops.
We finally went back to Rathdown for dinner time. Although, we spent the whole day walking and having fun, and we were exhausted, the kids had a gymkhana in teams mixed with boys and girls from other nationalities. By 10:30 the kids went to their rooms and talked about the great day they had had until they dropped asleep.
I love these kids!! See you tomorrow with more news… so stick around!
